This is a powerful reminder that none of us journeys through life alone—and no one succeeds alone.
We rely on the strength of our relationships to become what we aspire to be and what we are capable of becoming. And the fundamental underpinning of any strong relationship is trust.
As leaders, our success is entirely dependent on the people we have the privilege to lead. We ask them not just to perform, but often to stretch beyond their current capabilities to achieve what has not yet been done.
No coach has ever scored the winning basket, caught the touchdown pass, or hit the game-winning home run. That responsibility belongs to the players.
The same is true in leadership.
No leader succeeds over the long haul without the contributions of their team.
But to unlock performance that exceeds current capability, people must be willing to step outside their comfort zone. They must take risks. They must be willing to fail in the pursuit of growth.
And that only happens when trust is present.
Without trust—and the psychological safety that comes with it—people will hesitate. They will protect themselves rather than push themselves.
Great leaders earn trust by caring deeply about their people.
They take the time to understand their hopes, dreams, and aspirations—and then help them move closer to those outcomes. They connect on a human level, not just a transactional one.
And when that connection is real, something shifts.
People stop working for a paycheck…
and start working for a purpose.
Trust underlies every strong relationship.
