What type of shadow are you casting for your team?
We’ve talked before about the shadow of a leader—how the way you show up each day influences everyone around you.
If you bring a positive, can-do attitude, your team will often mirror that energy.
If you show up negative, discouraged, or disengaged, that tone will spread just as quickly.
Energy is contagious.
One negative person at the water cooler can impact an entire organization. But as a leader, the responsibility is even greater—because you set the tone.
That’s true at work.
And it’s just as true at home.
If you want a high-energy, engaged, and productive team, you must model the spirit you want to see. You cannot expect positivity, resilience, and enthusiasm if you are not demonstrating it consistently.
It’s amazing what can be accomplished when a team is aligned, rowing in the same direction, fueled by positive energy.
But that environment doesn’t happen by accident—it requires intention and discipline.
No one shows up at their best every single day. Negativity is always available, just waiting for an opening.
And in those moments, we all face a choice.
We can allow obstacles and adversity to pull us into a negative mindset—which is often the easier path.
Or we can look for the opportunity within the challenge, learn from the setback, and continue moving forward with purpose.
That choice matters more than we think.
Because in that decision lies not only our effectiveness as leaders—but also our happiness and long-term success.
So today, ask yourself:
What kind of shadow am I casting?
And is it creating the environment I truly want?
