Daily Reflection

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage.”
— Dale Carnegie

Have you ever looked at what appeared to be a complex or daunting task and believed that you weren’t capable of tackling it?

Maybe you put it off, choosing instead to focus on smaller, more comfortable tasks that felt safely within your wheelhouse.

Several years ago, I decided I wanted to change the stairs in my entryway by removing the carpeting and refinishing them. The problem was, I had no idea how to do it. Despite watching countless YouTube videos, I remained stuck, unable to begin.

The project felt overwhelming — long, complicated, and beyond my capabilities.

So it sat there for months.

I was stuck.

Then one day, I made a simple decision.

I pulled the carpet off the stairs.

At that moment, I was committed.

Ten days later, with the help of my daughter, the project was complete. The dragon had been slain.

That experience taught me several valuable lessons about fear and the inertia it creates.

You don’t need to understand every step of the journey to begin.

You simply need the courage to take the first step.

Once you do, momentum begins to build, and the path becomes clearer.

Hard tasks don’t become easier by staying in the starting gate.

You don’t develop new skills or capabilities without taking intentional action.

Yes, you will encounter resistance.

Yes, you will make mistakes.

But those missteps are part of the learning process. They are what drive growth.

There will always be a million reasons not to move forward.

But they all pale in comparison to the regret you may carry if you never try.

Growth requires courage.

And confidence is built by overcoming the struggle.

So take that first step today.

A more fulfilled life is waiting.
