What if tomorrow you were shown the person you could have become?
The leader you could have been.
The impact you could have made.
The lives you could have changed.
And what if the thing standing in the way was not lack of talent or opportunity…
…but fear?
Looking back on my life, I can identify plenty of times when I failed, made poor choices, or simply fell short of what I intended to accomplish.
In hindsight, there are certainly decisions I would change if given the opportunity.
But those are not the things I regret most.
What I regret most are the chances I didn’t take.
The moments I allowed fear to keep me safely inside my comfort zone.
The times I stayed silent because I worried how my words would sound or how others might perceive me.
The times I compromised my beliefs simply to fit in with the crowd.
As leaders, we often do the same thing.
We play it safe.
We avoid rocking the boat.
We try to fit in rather than stand out.
We go along to get along.
And in the process we slowly drift further away from the person we are capable of becoming.
Every one of us has been given tremendous gifts.
But gifts alone are not enough.
Eventually courage must enter the equation.
When fear hijacks us and keeps us trapped inside comfort and familiarity, we fail to become the best versions of ourselves.
If tomorrow were your last day on earth, what would you regret most?
What dream would remain unexplored?
What conversation would remain unspoken?
What decision would remain unmade?
Make the decision today to confront the fear that is holding you back.
We are all capable of far more than we often allow ourselves to believe.
